Softball Recap: Argos Comes Up Short

Argos had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-18 to make it eight. They came up short against the Northwestern Tigers, falling 13-0. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Tigers when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Northwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Northwestern's part, Kruiz Giles made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Giles has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Northwestern let Stevie-Rae Hedges and Tessa Ortman run wild. Hedges went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Ortman went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Ortman has posted since back in April of 2025. Maci Rody was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Argos will be playing at home against North Judson-San Pierre at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Northwestern, they will square off against Peru at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
