Basketball Game Preview: Mayfield Cardinals vs. Carlisle County Comets

Mayfield has gone 9-1 against Carlisle County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mayfield Cardinals will face off against the Carlisle County Comets at 6:00 p.m.

Mayfield fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Graves County on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 43-41. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Carlisle County was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Fulton County 73-46. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mayfield better keep an eye on Wyatt Rickard. He was instrumental in Carlisle County's win, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 21 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rickard a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan O'Neill, who shot 53% from the field on his way to 19 points.

Carlisle County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive games.

Carlisle County's victory bumped their record up to 14-16. As for Mayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-9.

Mayfield beat Carlisle County 65-56 in their previous matchup back in February. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Rickard, who went 8-for-12 en route to 23 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
