Recap: St. Petersburg Catholic Barons vs. Patel Trailblazers
The St. Petersburg Catholic Barons were the 49-41 winner over the Patel Trailblazers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. St. Petersburg Catholic took a 44-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Patel on Wednesday. St. Petersburg Catholic has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, St. Petersburg Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Naomi Thompson scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Graham, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Patel had a senior duo take command as SIMARKAE MCLEAN scored 32 points along with two steals and ADRIANA ELLIS scored three points along with 14 steals and five rebounds. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which MCLEAN has scored at least a third of Patel's points.
St. Petersburg Catholic bumped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.3 points per game. As for Patel, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Petersburg Catholic will take on Indian Rocks Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Indian Rocks Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Patel, they will be playing at home against Calvary Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Christian is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
