Softball Game Preview: Watsonville Wildcatz vs. Everett Alvarez Eagles

The Watsonville Wildcatz will venture away from home to square off against the Everett Alvarez Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Watsonville's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Monday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Watsonville turned things around against Palma on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Chieftains, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcatz have posted since March 7th.

Amelia Martinez spent all 12 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Watsonville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jillian Lerma, who went 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Everett Alvarez's offense. They lost 17-0 to Monterey on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Dores: they've now lost six in a row.

Everett Alvarez's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Watsonville, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Watsonville might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Everett Alvarez when the teams last played back in April. Can the Wildcatz avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
