Softball Recap: Elgin Takes a Loss

Elgin had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-17 to make it five. They lost 14-0 to the South Elgin Storm. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Storm this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in April.

Elgin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Tetrev, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Tetrev is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played.

As for South Elgin, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On South Elgin's side, Kaidence Rumachik made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Rumachik a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Elgin got a massive performance out of Liv Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Miller has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Jenna Sheehan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Elgin has already played their next matchup, an 11-1 loss against Glenbard South on the 8th. As for South Elgin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-0 win against Leyden on the 7th.
