 The Hoggard Vikings will head out on the road to  take on  the Laney Buccaneers at 6:30  p.m.  on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hoggard has nine straight  wins, Laney has three straight  losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
 On Tuesday, Hoggard faced Ashley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hoggard skirted past Ashley  4-2.
  Logan Ponnett was  excellent,  scoring a  run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was  Josiah Gillespie, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-2.
 Meanwhile, Laney came up short against South Brunswick on Tuesday and fell  6-3.
 Laney also got a good showing from  Mason Jones, who   pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit (he also didn't allow any  walks).
 On the hitting side,  Carston Wedemeyer was cooking despite his team's loss,   scoring two  runs and  stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.  TJ Ziermann was another key contributor,  going 2-for-4 with two  stolen bases.
 Hoggard's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Laney, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Laney's pitching crew has a tough task ahead of them:  Hoggard hasn't had any issues making contact this season,  having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Laney, though, as  they've  only  averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Hoggard's hitters?
 Hoggard beat Laney 4-0  in their previous meeting  back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the  squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
