Baseball Game Preview: Saranac Lake Red Storm vs. Saranac Spartans

Saranac Lake is 2-8 against Saranac since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Red Storm will welcome the Spartans at 4:30 p.m.

Saranac Lake is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Northeastern Clinton. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Red Storm's highest-scoring matchup to date.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Saranac and Beekmantown, and Saranac kept the tradition alive. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Eagles on Wednesday.

Seth Petrashune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zack Lucia was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adrian Barnes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Saranac's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Saranac Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
