Softball Preview: Lowell Devils vs. Oakland Oakers

The Lowell Devils will head out on the road to take on the Oakland Oakers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lowell will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Lowell narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Elkton 4-3.

Cassidy Matthews made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Matthews was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Amerika Baszler was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Oakland stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Camas Valley with a sharp 13-3 win. Winning may never get old, but Oakland sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Like Lowell, Oakland also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Dalberti. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits over four innings pitched. Dalberti was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Oakland got a massive performance out of Cerena Thacker, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI. Gwen Field was another key contributor, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two doubles, and a run.

Lowell's record is now 8-4. As for Oakland, their record is now 12-3.
