Softball Recap: Gooding Has No Trouble Against Filer

Gooding barely beat Filer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Senators were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Wildcats on Wednesday. Considering the Senators have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Silver spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gooding let Olivia Rogers and Jaelynn Patton run wild. Rogers went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple, while Patton got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Patton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mady Morris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.

Gooding was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Filer only posted a batting average of .231.

The win made it two in a row for Gooding and bumps their season record up to 12-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Filer, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15-1 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gooding beat Filer by a score of 13-9 later that day.
