Baseball Recap: Sickles Takes Down Largo in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Sickles rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Largo Packers with a sharp 7-1 win. Considering the Gryphons have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brandon Gonzales made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. Gonzales was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Connor Bly looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Taylor, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Charlie Martz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sickles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Largo only posted a batting average of .056.

Sickles is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Largo, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8.

Coming up, Sickles will take on East Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Gryphons surely won't give up without a fight. Largo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
