Softball Recap: Plainfield East Comes Up Short

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Plainfield East and Naperville Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. The Bengals came up short against the Redhawks, falling 15-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bengals have suffered against the Redhawks since May 25, 2022.

Jahaira Malacara made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Cawthon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Plainfield East's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Naperville Central, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield East will take on Andrew at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbolts' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Bengals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Naperville Central, they will challenge Naperville North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something the Redhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
