Baseball Game Preview: Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles vs. Waltonville Spartans

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval hasn't had much luck against Waltonville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Waltonville took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Odin/Patoka/Sandoval, who comes in off a win.

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Grayville on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Bison 15-3. That looming 15-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

Ben Spencer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Spencer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those hits were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Austin Hoffman was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lance Nix, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Waltonville lost 9-2 to Herrin on Wednesday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Waltonville now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-4.

Odin/Patoka/Sandoval might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Waltonville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
