Terry Sanford got a great performance from Jack Reaves as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Reaves has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Terry Sanford let Gibson Bray and Benny Whiteaker run wild. Bray scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Whiteaker went 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits Whiteaker has posted since back in March of 2024. Louis Smelcer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Harnett Central was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Pine Forest 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Harnett Central has posted against Pine Forest since March 22, 2022.
Rylan Wester made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. Wester was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Wester wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brantley Champion, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Terry Sanford's record now sits at 7-3. As for Harnett Central, their record is now 6-2.
Terry Sanford skirted past Harnett Central 7-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Terry Sanford since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
