Baseball Game Preview: Fremd Vikings vs. Stevenson Patriots

The Fremd Vikings will head out to square off against the Stevenson Patriots at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fremd is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Fremd is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Hersey, who was ranked 15th at the time (Fremd was ranked eighth). The Vikings came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 6-3 on Friday. While the Vikings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Stevenson let Niles Notre Dame stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Thursday but luckily Stevenson prevailed anyway. The Patriots skirted past the Dons 6-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Alex Han looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stevenson let Ryan Martin and Max Kim run wild. Martin went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Kim went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Martin a new career-high.

Fremd's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-0-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Stevenson, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
