Basketball Game Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. Providence Day Chargers

The Covenant Day Lions just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Providence Day Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Covenant Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Covenant Day ended up a good deal behind Charlotte Country Day School and lost 64-48. The Lions were down 52-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Covenant Day might have lost, but man, Chris Rivens was a machine: he went 9 for 15 en route to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Rivens a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Krouse, who posted six points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Providence Day had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.9 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-43 victory over the Hawks. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Hawks are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Providence Day is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.4 points per game. As for Covenant Day, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
