Baseball Recap: Oaks Christian Comes Up Short

If Oaks Christian was riding high fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Calabasas last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Oaks Christian fell just short of Calabasas by a score of 7-6 on Thursday. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Coyotes earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

Christian Ipsen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carson Sheffer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Chad Rolison, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Oaks Christian's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Calabasas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

While Oaks Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
