Baseball Game Preview: Spencer County Bears vs. Woodford County Yellowjackets

Spencer County is 1-8 against Woodford County since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellowjackets at 5:45 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Spencer County took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They skirted past Perry County Central 6-4.

Meanwhile, Woodford County had just enough and edged out Mercer County 2-1 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

The team relied heavily on Jb Martin, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jackson Irvin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Spencer County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Woodford County, their victory bumped their record up to 18-9.

Spencer County suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Woodford County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
