Baseball Recap: West Ashley Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when West Ashley duked it out with Carmel Christian on Monday. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Aiden Prioleau made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for West Ashley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-9 otherwise. Prioleau was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Finn Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

West Ashley's record is now 5-10. As for Carmel Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

West Ashley and Carmel Christian could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 116th) will meet Blessed Trinity (ranked 27th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Carmel Christian will face off against Philip Simmons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (135 vs. 24).
