League recap: Garces rises in state rank

Southeast Yosemite recap October 1, 2013

Garces scaled the state rankings by moving to 178 from 204 this week, the biggest jump in Southeast Yosemite. The Rams were able to move up by beating Stockdale 41-26.

Foothill lost to South 45-3 last week, the largest margin of any game.

East Bakersfield's dynamic duo of Blake Sherman and Malik Nichols proved tough for Wasco to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sherman threw for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns and Nichols had 73 yards receiving. Josh Alvarado helped East Bakersfield's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 21 yards.

Tyrell Eddington made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Blades fell to the Tigers. The 6-foot-4 junior grabbed 2.0 sacks.

Jake Pavletich was a passing and rushing force as Garces beat the Mustangs. He completed 10 passes for 153 yards and also ran for 1 yards. Pavletich's key target this week was Sheldon Croney, who caught 4 passes for 63 yards.

Garces' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pavletich has thrown for 527 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Dominic Frasch has 10 catches for 204 yards.

In 130 carries Croney has put up 906 yards this year.

Jim Maples' team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Stockdale. Croney ran for 140 yards and caught 4 passes for 63 yards during the win.
