Preview: Big Walnut Golden Eagles vs. Canal Winchester Indians
Big Walnut has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Canal Winchester Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Walnut will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Canal Winchester is ranked 35th).
Last Friday, Big Walnut got themselves on the board against Dublin Scioto, but Dublin Scioto never followed suit. They blew past the Irish, posting a 37-0 win at home. The result was nothing new for Big Walnut, who have now won four matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Nathan Severs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 182 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Severs is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Ryan Eliott did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and four extra points.
Meanwhile, Canal Winchester is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Hayes on Friday, but Hayes came as close as anyone has to beating them. Canal Winchester skirted past Hayes 24-21.
Big Walnut has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. As for Canal Winchester, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0.
Big Walnut came up short against Canal Winchester when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 21-14. Can Big Walnut avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
