Basketball Recap: Memorial Red Devils vs. Springfield Tigers

Memorial lost against Springfield back in December of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Memorial Red Devils were beaten by the Springfield Tigers 50-17. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Memorial saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Arianna Gonzalez posted six points in addition to nine blocks and five boards. Gonzalez is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayona Floyd-Brown, who had five points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

Springfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maren Vinkler out in front who went 9 of 12 on her way to 20 points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave Vinkler a new career-high. Kristina Vecchione was another key player, going 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Springfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memorial will head out to challenge Western Reserve at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will venture away from home to face off against McDonald at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
