Baseball Game Preview: Hoover Huskies vs. Charleston Catholic Irish

The Hoover Huskies are taking a road trip to square off against the Charleston Catholic Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

On Monday, Hoover got the win against Nicholas County by a conclusive 10-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.

Riley Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Sam Salyers was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. That run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Braydon Bounds, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Hoover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nicholas County only posted an OBP of .214.

Meanwhile, Charleston Catholic made easy work of Roane County on Monday and carried off a 13-3 victory. The Irish haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Charleston Catholic now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Hoover, their record now sits at 6-4.

Hoover beat Charleston Catholic 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Irish have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
