Recap: Ironton Fighting Tigers vs. Portsmouth Trojans

The Ironton Fighting Tigers fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Portsmouth Trojans on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 92-85 to the Trojans. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Ironton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braden Schreck, who scored 29 points along with six assists. Schreck is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Shaun Terry, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 assists.

Deandre Berry continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Portsmouth, almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine assists. Berry has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of isaiah lewis, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.

Ironton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Portsmouth, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Ironton will be playing in front of their home fans against Gallia Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gallia Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Ironton is ranked 205th). As for Portsmouth, they will head out on the road to challenge South Point at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Portsmouth is coming into the game with three straight wins on the road, so South Point is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
