Basketball Recap: Berthoud Spartans vs. Eaton Reds
The Berthoud Spartans lost against the Eaton Reds back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Berthoud fell 47-40 to the Reds. Berthoud has not had much luck with the Reds recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Berthoud saw an underclassman step up: Avery Pfohl scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rory Carr, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Eaton was led to victory by Courtney Steinkamp and Tayla Wiedeman. Steinkamp scored 19 points along with six rebounds, while Wiedeman scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Saryiah Gaona, who scored three points along with six rebounds.
Berthoud's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Eaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berthoud will take on the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Weld Central is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Eaton, they will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Sterling focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
