Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Byington and Emilee Mailloux Secure Win for Volunteer

It was a Battle of the Birds when Volunteer duked it out with Tri-Cities Christian on Friday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 46-23 margin over the Eagles. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Volunteer was led to victory by Emilee Mailloux and Elizabeth Byington. Mailloux went 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points along with eight assists and five steals, while Byington dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most assists Mailloux has posted since back in November of 2024.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Volunteer was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 2-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Tri-Cities Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Michaela Dixon, who had seven points and six boards.

The victory got Volunteer back to even at 3-3. As for Tri-Cities Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Volunteer will host Morristown-Hamblen East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' defense better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 61.2 points per game this season. As for Tri-Cities Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m.
