Baseball Game Preview: Pembroke Hill Raiders vs. Bishop Ward Cyclones

The Pembroke Hill Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Bishop Ward Cyclones at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pembroke Hill will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Monday, Pembroke Hill needed a bit of extra time to put away Winnetonka. They blew past the Griffins 14-7. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Sohan Sanjanwala was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Sanjanwala was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Langston Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Miles Washington, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

Pembroke Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Bishop Ward fell victim to Paola and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Panthers. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pembroke Hill's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Ward, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Pembroke Hill suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Bishop Ward in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
