Softball Recap: Union Pines Gets the Win

Union Pines was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Southern Alamance Patriots, sneaking past 4-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Serena McCutchen and Kileigh Cameron did most of the damage at the plate: McCutchen scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Cameron went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave McCutchen a new career-high.

Union Pines pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Southern Alamance, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Pines will take on Southern Lee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Lee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Southern Alamance, they will square off against Roxboro Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Roxboro Community's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Southern Alamance's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
