Basketball Game Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. Smoky Mountain Mustangs + How To Watch

The Avery County Vikings will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Smoky Mountain Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Avery County is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against West Wilkes. The Vikings simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Blackhawks 56-15. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 29-9.

Among those leading the charge was Marley Jones, who shot 71% from the field to rack up 14 points and five boards. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Caroline Hollifield was another key player, putting up 11 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Smoky Mountain took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They breezed past Madison to the tune of 59-22.

Avery County was able to grind out a solid win over Smoky Mountain in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 47-37. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
