Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Gridley

Gridley extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 12-4 in the process. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Oroville Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Reese Stevens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Stevens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Mendenhall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Delanie Cloyd was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Gridley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive contests.

As for Oroville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it eight in a row.

On Oroville's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenessa Igot, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Looking ahead, Gridley will face off against Truckee at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Oroville, they will take on Corning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
