Softball Recap: Sun Valley Drops Season-High Score on Central Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sun Valley). They put the hurt on the Central Academy Cougars with a sharp 13-3 win on Wednesday. The Spartans not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18, 2024.

Kendall Smith (2026) made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gretchen Daniel (2028) was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Caryna Noel (2025) was another key player, scoring two runs.

Sun Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sun Valley's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-6. As for Central Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sun Valley will head out to take on Cuthbertson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Central Academy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Central Academy Cougars duke it out with Piedmont Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piedmont will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
