Preview: Rockford Rockets vs. Annandale Cardinals
After three games on the road, Rockford is heading back home. They will take on the Annandale Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Rockford lost to Watertown-Mayer on the road by a decisive 55-40 margin. Rockford has struggled against Watertown-Mayer recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sienna Thomas, who scored nine points. Rayna Johnson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Annandale suffered their biggest defeat since December 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 57-35 walloping at the hands of Glencoe-Silver Lake. While losing is never fun, Annandale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Glencoe-Silver Lake is ranked 75th).
Rockford's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Annandale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Rockford ended up a good deal behind Annandale in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, losing 52-34. Can Rockford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
