Softball Recap: Prairie Grove's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Prairie Grove was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Green Forest on Tuesday. Prairie Grove never let Green Forest get on the board and left with a 23-0 win. Considering Prairie Grove has won five contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Angelina Petersen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Prairie Grove let Jill Emerson and Ivey Sparkman run wild. Emerson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sparkman scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Kayte Struve was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Prairie Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Prairie Grove moved to 8-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Green Forest, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Prairie Grove will welcome Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Green Forest, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Green Forest Tigers duke it out with Gravette Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
