League recap: Eisenhower win leads to rise in state rank

Eisenhower moved up to 460 from 491 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 18. The Eagles were able to make the jump by beating MacArthur 24-21.

Eisenhower and the Generals played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Eisenhower eventually emerging with a 24-21 victory.

Alief Elsik's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Bedford threw for 60 yards and Casey Williams had 33 yards receiving. On the ground Caleb Cormier chipped in 58 yards. Malcolm Washington helped Alief Elsik's passing attack out by catching one ball for 19 yards.

Alief Elsik's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bedford has thrown for 389 yards and one touchdown this season, while Williams has 15 catches for 273 yards. Cormier leads the league in rushing with 199 yards.

A big matchup in 5A Region III District 18 this week will be when Aldine takes on MacArthur. The Mustangs are currently in fourth, while Bernard Mulvaney's team is in second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Nimitz takes on the Rams. The Cougars have allowed 66 points this season, while Alief Elsik has given up 80.

Nimitz took down Alief Hastings 40-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
