Softball Recap: Wakefield Finds Home Field Redemption Against Herndon

There's no place like home for Wakefield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Herndon Hornets on Monday, sneaking past 9-7. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Regan Hughes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Hannah Nilame was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tatum Oliver, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Wakefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Wakefield now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Herndon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Coming up, Wakefield will head out to square off against Washington-Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Herndon, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-7 loss against Wakefield School on the 28th.
