Baseball Recap: St. Croix Central Has No Trouble Against Amery

St. Croix Central never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Amery Warriors as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won eight in a row.

Eli Babler was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of St. Croix Central's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Babler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brecken Ponath, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brett Graese, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

St. Croix Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

St. Croix Central's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Amery, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Croix Central beat the Warriors by a score of 12-2 later that day.
