Godby hasn't had much luck against Niceville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Godby is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Godby took on Baker County on Friday. The Cougars secured a 17-13 W over the Wildcats. The 17-point effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
A big part of Godby's victory came down to the chemistry between Landon Dougherty and his top target Jamarin Simmons. Dougherty threw for 175 yards and one TD while Simmons gained 67 total yards and two touchdowns.
Godby's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jaylen Lawson, Lazarus Chambers, and Willie Ponder, who each picked up one sack apiece. Godby got some further help from Qyntel Strong: he made 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Niceville made sure to put some points up on the board against Gulf Breeze on Friday. The Eagles claimed a resounding 56-6 win over the Dolphins. The contest marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Godby better focus on containing Jakobe Gilyard and Deagan McCoy as the pair were huge in Niceville's win. Gilyard gained 104 total yards and three touchdowns, while McCoy threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Gilyard also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Niceville is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Robert Oliver also helped out with an impressive 105 receiving yards.
Niceville's run defense was locked in: Gulf Breeze could only muster 2.8 yards per carry. The Eagles didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.6.
The win got Godby back to even at 3-3. As for Niceville, the victory also got them back to even at 3-3.
Godby was dealt a bruising 56-27 defeat at the hands of Niceville when the teams last played back in September of 2021. Thankfully for the Cougars, Addison Moore (who rushed for 195 yards and three scores while picking up 12.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
