Baseball Game Preview: Scituate Spartans vs. Central Knights

For the first time this season, Scituate will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Central Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Scituate took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Rogers as they made off with an 11-1 win.

Travis Howman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Howman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Scituate got a massive performance out of Paul Zolkos, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Zolkos posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Scanlon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Scituate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rogers only posted an OBP of .118.

Meanwhile, Central got the win against Prout on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Central's record is now 2-0. As for Scituate, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Scituate couldn't quite get it done against Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
