Softball Recap: Bernards Has No Trouble Against Bound Brook

Bernards got themselves on the board against Bound Brook on Monday, but Bound Brook never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 6-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mountaineers.

Bound Brook's batters probably weren't too happy with Gabby Mongo, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up two walks). Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Mongo.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kriztina Lekai, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brooke Helpinstill, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Bernards hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Bernards' record is now 2-6. As for Bound Brook, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Bernards will welcome Warren Hills Regional at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Bound Brook, they will challenge Mount St. Mary Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight.
