Basketball Recap: Washburn Rural's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Washburn Rural and Blue Valley North squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Washburn Rural had to settle for second. They took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Valley North Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Blues can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Mustangs are ranked sixth).

Washburn Rural moved to 14-6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for Blue Valley North, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4-1 record this season.
