Softball Recap: Torrey Pines Beats Granite Hills for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Torrey Pines waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Granite Hills Eagles 7-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Falcons also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2021.

The team relied heavily on Eva Gutierrez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wilhemina Crouch, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Torrey Pines was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granite Hills only posted a batting average of .258.

Torrey Pines' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Granite Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11-1 record this season.

Torrey Pines wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Rancho Buena Vista on the 22nd. As for Granite Hills, they have also already played their next contest, a 5-0 win against Steele Canyon on the 23rd.
