Baseball Recap: Lutheran Gets the Win

Lutheran proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 18) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Central Texas Christian Lions, sneaking past 6-5.

Keegan Stinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Jack Fiorenza and Brayden Larsen did most of the damage at the plate: Fiorenza went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI, while Larsen scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Larsen is becoming a predictor of Lutheran's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Austin Eickstead was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Central Texas Christian, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-5.

Lutheran will have a chance to go back-to-back against Central Texas Christian: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
