Baseball Recap: River View Drops Highest Score of Season Against New Lexington

River View extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-10 in the process. They came up short against the New Lexington Panthers, falling 18-12. On the bright side, the 12- run effort marked the Black Bears' highest-scoring game to date.

As for New Lexington, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

For New Lexington's part, Carson Fortner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Fortner has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, New Lexington got a big performance out of Tanner Toth, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The Panthers are undefeated when Toth posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nathan Gottke, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Coincidentally, River View and New Lexington will both be playing Coshocton the next time they take the field. The Panthers will head out to face the Redskins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Black Bears will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
