Volleyball Recap: Anacortes Seahawks vs. Lynden Lions

After flying high against Mt. Baker last Tuesday, Anacortes came back down to earth. The Anacortes Seahawks fell just short of the Lynden Lions by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Seahawks have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Anacortes wouldn't go down easily and took Lynden into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The final score came out to 25-10, 25-18, 14-25, 17-25, 15-12.

Tatum Swapp paced Anacortes' offense, picking up 17 kills. Swapp got some help from Leah Andrew and her 35 assists. Swapp also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Jenna Baker, racking up two apiece.

Anacortes' loss dropped their record down to 11-8-1. As for Lynden, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-4-1.

Anacortes will challenge Squalicum at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Squalicum is coming into the contest with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Anacortes will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Lynden, a feisty cat fight will be fought when Lions challenges Burlington-Edison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. They will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Lynden surely won't give up without a fight.
