Baseball Recap: Wright City Takes a Loss

Wright City fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against St. Charles on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-6. The Wildcats have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Tyler Martin and Kayden McCurdy did some serious damage despite the final result: Martin got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while McCurdy went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Martin has become a key player for Wright City: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Leighton McDonald, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Wright City's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for St. Charles, they pushed their record up to 7-15 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, Wright City will host Clopton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Charles, they will take on Montgomery County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
