Recap: Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights vs. East New York Family Academy
It was a good run, but the Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a serious blow against East New York Family Academy, falling 77-40. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Friendship Collegiate Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked eighth in District of Columbia, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 69th in New York).
It was another big night for Arianna Mercado, who scored 36 points along with five steals for East New York Family Academy. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Mercado has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amariah Clyne, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Friendship Collegiate Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for East New York Family Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Friendship Collegiate Academy will take on Thurgood Marshall Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East New York Family Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Union City at 7:00 p.m.
