Baseball Game Preview: Geneseo Maple Leafs vs. Dunlap Eagles

The Geneseo Maple Leafs will head out to face off against the Dunlap Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Geneseo came up short against Rock Island and fell 8-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Maple Leafs in their meetings with the Rocks: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dunlap, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against East Peoria on Wednesday as they made off with a 6-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Davis Weeks was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Weeks wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Michanicou, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Dunlap's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Geneseo, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Everything went Geneseo's way against Dunlap in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Geneseo made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maple Leafs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
