Basketball Recap: Cape Fear Falls Despite Big Games from Elisabeth Kirkland and Shanel Sutton

Cape Fear lost against Seventy-First back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cape Fear Colts took a 47-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seventy-First Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Falcons are ranked 97th).

Cape Fear's loss came despite strong showings from Shanel Sutton and Elisabeth Kirkland. Sutton dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Kirkland almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Sutton has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 18 times she's played.

Cape Fear has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Seventy-First, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Cape Fear does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Seventy-First, they and Lumberton will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played.
