Baseball Recap: Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Takes a Loss

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Alhambra on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Moors by a score of 5-4. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jackson Villagran put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Villagran wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rashid Macias, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Matthew Luna also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Alhambra, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season.
