Softball Recap: Round Valley Gets the Win

While Round Valley's win against Benson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Round Valley Elks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over the Benson Bobcats on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Elks have posted since April 2, 2024.

Carla Arreola made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ruth Wiltbank, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Kylar Penrod was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Round Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Round Valley and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Benson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Round Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-2 win against Camp Verde on the 12th. As for Benson, they have also already played their next contest, a 27-6 loss against Tombstone on the 13th.
