Baseball Recap: United South Extends Winning Streak to Three

United South extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 23-9 in the process. Everything went their way against the Laredo LBJ Wolves as they made off with a 10-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Martin Lopez and Roman Martinez were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Lopez tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Martinez pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Lopez posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Lopez went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Martinez went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luis Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

United South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laredo LBJ struck out nine times.

As for Laredo LBJ, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-15 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

On Laredo LBJ's side, they got a good showing from Roel Espinoza, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Espinoza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Enrique Loyola was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As of now, neither United South nor Laredo LBJ have any future games scheduled.
